Eyecare for Zambia is a non-profit organization that is committed to improving the eye health of Zambians and Africa at large. We are passionate about providing accessible and affordable eye care services, developmental aid and education to those who need them the most, particularly in rural areas where access to quality care is limited.
Zambia has one of the highest rates of blindness in the world, and many of these cases are preventable or treatable with proper care. Unfortunately, due to a lack of resources, trained personnel, and infrastructure, many Zambians do not receive the eye care they need. We have a team of volunteers consisting of skilled UK eye surgeons, optometrists and also a network of orthoptists, eye technicians, and other professionals resident in Zambia who coordinate and plan the delivery of services. We also send specialised equipment to Zambia for use in hospitals, communities, and regional clinics. The needs and demand for eye care services are immense.
Eyecare for Zambia Charirty was founded to bridge this gap and to provide Zambians with the care services they deserve. Our mission is to improve access to eye care services and reduce the incidence of preventable blindness in Zambia. We achieve this by providing free eye care services, such as screenings, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care, to underserved communities across the country.
Our team of passionate and dedicated volunteers works tirelessly to achieve our mission. We collaborate with local organizations and government agencies to ensure that our services reach those who need them the most.
At Eye care for Zambia, we believe that everyone deserves the right to good vision and eye health. We are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of Zambians and creating a brighter future for the country. Join us in our mission to bring better vision and brighter futures to the people of Zambia.
In Zambia, eye care is crucial for the well-being and productivity of individuals, families, and communities. Unfortunately, many Zambians do not receive the care they need due to a lack of resources, trained personnel, and infrastructure. As a result, preventable blindness and visual impairment are prevalent in the country.
Eye care is particularly important in Zambia because many people rely on their sight for their livelihood. For instance, farmers need their vision to cultivate crops and livestock, while artisans need their sight to create handicrafts. Additionally, children need their vision to succeed in school and build a brighter future for themselves and their families.
Furthermore, the consequences of blindness and visual impairment extend beyond physical health. They can also have a significant impact on a person’s mental health, social well-being, and economic opportunities. For instance, individuals with visual impairments may experience social isolation, decreased job opportunities, and reduced access to education and healthcare.
At Eyecare for Zambia, we believe that everyone deserves access to quality eye care services. We are committed to reducing the incidence of preventable blindness and improving the overall eye health of Zambians. Through our work, we hope to create a brighter future for individuals and communities across the country.
Eyecare for Zambia was founded in 2015 by a group of passionate eye care professionals namely Rev. Simon Nkole and Eye Surgeon Tristan Reuser who saw a critical need for eye care services in Zambia. The organization was established to provide accessible and affordable eye care to underserved communities in Zambia, particularly in rural areas where access to quality care is limited. The team took the first trip in 2016 and by 2017, the charity was registered with UK Charity commission.
Since our inception, we have made significant progress in achieving our mission. We have provided free eye care services, such as screenings, diagnosis, treatment, training, and follow-up care, to thousands of Zambians. We have collaborated with local organizations, faith groups and government agencies to ensure that our services reach those who need them the most.
Our work has also helped raise awareness about the importance of eye care in Zambia. We have organized awareness campaigns, workshops, and training sessions to educate communities about eye health and the steps they can take to prevent blindness and visual impairment.
One of our core beliefs is that access to eye care should be a basic human right. We are committed to improving access to eye care services and reducing the incidence of preventable blindness in Zambia. We do this by partnering with local organizations, national television station, radio stations and volunteers to provide sustainable, high-quality eye care services across the country.
At Eyecare for Zambia, we are proud of our history and the impact we have made in the lives of Zambians. However, there is still much work to be done. We are committed to continuing our efforts to improve eye health in Zambia and create a brighter future for the country.
